Youth – Media Power Youth

Youth Workshops

Make a Day of Media Literacy!

Media Power Youth’s media literacy workshops help young people become savvy media consumers and creators. These workshops set students on a path to making safer, smarter choices by teaching them to recognize the hidden agenda behind all types of media and how to construct their own positive media that reflects their beliefs and values.

Interested in bringing a media literacy workshop to your school, early learning or after school program? Contact us to get started.

YOUTH MEDIA LITERACY WORKSHOPS

We currently offer workshops specifically for the upper elementary through high school grade levels. Workshop lengths range from 1 hour to 1 day.

Media, Power and You: Empowering Youth Through Smart Media Use

1-3 Hours

In this introductory workshop, children will learn the basics of media literacy and apply those skills to a specific health topic (i.e. violence, bullying, alcohol, tobacco, vaping, healthy eating, body image, self-esteem, and depression).

Media Power and You in ACTION!: Becoming Positive Message Makers

Full Day

Young people will delve deeper into a health issue affected by media use. They will learn a variety of advanced media literacy skills and use that knowledge to create an original production such as a Public Service Announcement (PSA). All aspects of pre-production, production and post-production are included, empowering participants to be both critical media consumers and positive message makers.

After School and Community Youth Programs

Multiple 2-Hour Sessions

Community organizations can customize a program to fit their specific needs and time requirements. Introduce the basics of media literacy and then encourage students to apply those skills to a specific health topic (i.e. violence, bullying, alcohol, tobacco, vaping, healthy eating, self-esteem, depression, and body image).
